I cannot deny that it makes me feel safe, connected and secure. And not just because I can call or navigate my way out of nearly any situation. Nope, because I always have a journal and I always have a book.
I sometimes wonder how I would react to true tragedy. As a Type A creative with a Gemini star sign and enough anxiety to power the grid at least for a day, I wonder this probably more than I should. But the answer is always the same–I would read my way through. I would write my way out.
My favorite genre is binge reading stories from the library, spending all day in bed swearing I’ll stop after one more chapter, developing massive, unhealthy crushes on fictional characters. My favorite genre is whatever I can get my hands on.

I think that the ongoing debate of pitting e-books and print books and audiobooks against each other in some fight to the death misses the point of reading entirely.
Which is why I’m not going to pick a favorite, but tell you a little about why I love each one.
Writing is wonderful. It’s like playing God, sculpting worlds, forming new people from nothing but your fingers against the keyboard, giving life to the two-dimensional creations of your own mind, weaving spells of love and pain and the whole spectrum of human emotion. I love being a writer, but that’s not why I do it.
I do not have a half-naked Greek Goddess of muse and inspiration lying across my bed. Inspiration doesn’t work like that.
