One of the most exciting parts of finishing that novel is getting to write those two, little, lovely, wonderful words at the bottom of the last page.
The End.
And while I don’t get to do it nearly as often as I would like, I have undoubtedly perfected the celebration of finishing a manuscript. Here are just a few ways I welcome in creative victories!
Ice Cream
If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, it would be ice cream. I love ice cream. I love finishing manuscripts. It’s a match made in Heaven.
Long Walks
One of my favorite ways to unwind is to take a long walk and get in some quality audiobook time. We’re lucky to live very near to a beautiful park and Nashville is all about that spring weather, so I’ll toss on good walking shoes and take a few laps.
Getting Dirty
My newest interest is the home garden I’m attempting not to murder. There’s something special and wonderful about getting my hands into the dirt and it’s a great way to celebrate something new that I’ve created.
Reading a Book
As a writer, I wish I could read all the time. But sometimes I have to write too! Finishing a manuscript means I’m allowed to take a little time and indulge in my favorites!
Baking Cookies
Or cakes. Or cupcakes. Or bread. Baking is one of my favorite hobbies and there’s no better time to whip out the apron and stand mixer than when I’ve completed a new project.
The truth is, I do all these things even when I haven’t finished a project. But they’re all just a little sweeter after I’ve typed those special words.
